Making Room for Ritual (Even when you're in a rush)
We all have habits—things we do almost without thinking. A morning stretch. Flipping on the coffee pot. Clearing the counter before bed.
But sometimes, with just a little pause, a habit becomes something more.
It becomes a way to mark time. To notice the world around you.
That’s where ritual begins—not with pressure, but with presence.
Ritual Isn’t Always Grand
So often, we think of ritual as grand and ceremonial and formal.
But more often, it’s something quiet. Something simple. And something done with intention.
- It might be opening a window.
- It might be lighting a candle before you write or pray or rest.
- It might be one deep inhale of something that reminds you to slow down.
At Cedar Moon, I think of scent as a kind of companion to ritual.
It doesn’t need to take up a lot of space.
It just needs to meet you and support you where you are.
Creating a Scent Ritual
- With a room spray – Mark a transition: before bed, after tidying, or when shifting from work to rest. Spray, pause, breathe.
- With a candle – Choose a scent that fits your mood. Light it with intention. Let the flame anchor you.
- With a shower steamer or soap – Let the scent rise with the steam or sink into your skin. Imagine the fragrance washing something away—or waking something up.
- With wax melts – Perfect for background ritual. They don’t demand your attention, but they quietly shape your space.
Ritual doesn’t need to be rigid.
Let it be real. Let it support your life, just as it is.
You can always begin again.
